I have watched the movie numerous times including this week and it’s certainly a noteworthy film and was nominated for 11 Oscars winning only 1. Cooper, a great actor was very good in the none baseball moments but dreadful as a ball player. The story ( parts of it) is hokey of course. My wife used to love the movie but can’t bear it now after losing her mother to ALS. However I watch almost every time I come across it, hokey and all. I guess I enjoy the parts with Babe Ruth himself, who was quite good in the film ( playing Babe Ruth, he knew the part, ha), also Mark Koenig and Bill Dickey who was an active player in 1942, only a year after Lou’s death were in it. It was a wartime film where Americans were looking for heroes, and Lou was one as far as ball players go. I have always thought they should remake his story and be a little more truthful . ‘Luckiest Man’ by Jonathan Eig is a great read about him and would be an excellent script.
