History certainly may not repeat itself, but it can often rhyme...and I think we're getting close again.
It appears the U.S. & The British Empire have a bit in common. The English were quite arrogant in thinking they could control all their inferior colonies quite easily (See India)...and it appears we thought the same of China. Giving away such a large portion of our manufacturing to China has put us in the same position Yamamoto saw for Japan prior to WWII. The U.S. obviously saw Russia as a true threat and we never encouraged them to become a manufacturing juggernaut, because they were OUR ENEMY. OTOH, I guess our leaders thought they could "control" the communist (OUR ENEMY) in China - which as is seems, turned out to quite an arrogant stance...which may also backfire in a very bad way.
Can anyone really be surprised that an up and comer like China is throwing some jabs at the Champion of the World, just to see how tough he really is? I mean hell...I know for a fact from 2 confirmed sources we have been spying on China since the late '80's - probably before then, but I don't have any absolute proof of that. So I'm not sure how our "leaders" can pretend to be surprised that the new kid on the block doesn't understand why they shouldn't be afforded the same opportunity - being a world power and all.
I think our best chance to remain The King for another century (fingers-crossed)...is that the very small quasi capitalist system in China can take root and overthrown the communist regime. Once people "taste real freedom", I believe that thirst is hard to satisfy. Here's hoping anyway...
