Since the prime of crawfish season will be winding down, I am thinking of ways to entertain and feed some friends in a new house I just bought. Have any of you built a fire pit for roasting a whole hog? I have seen it done a few ways and wanted to get your thoughts. For a bachelor party at a cabin, we used one section of an old bunk bed as the grill and covered the sides and top with sheets of tin. I have also heard of people burying the hog. How have you seen it done? My plan short term is to build something that can be disassembled/moved afterward. Long term I would not mind building something nicer that is multifunctional that could be used for other things like charbroiling a half sack of oysters like they do on the food network in SC.
