So, the motivational speaker at my firm's retreat this weekend was Eric McElvenny, an amputee who lost his right leg after stepping on an IED in Afghanistan. Eric's story is pretty incredible. After relearning how to walk with his prosthetic, he began training to complete his first Iron Man. Now, he has 8 or 9 iron mans under his belt and is part of Team USA's paralympic team.
Anywho, that goal of mine to one day finish an Iron Man is now more front and center. To begin, I am eyeing the Gulf Coast 70.3 in May 2023. If I check that box, I will move towards a full Iron Man (hopefully).
Anyone have tips for starting the training process/can recommend a training plan? I am moderately to above average in shape now. I bike appx. 100 miles a week, with a solid 50-60 mile ride every weekend, and can somewhat comfortably run a 10k. I have always been a strong swimmer, but the endurance swimming is not something I have much experience with.
Thanks folks.
