In talking with a number of clients, we've kinda formulated our rationale on why Trump is doing so well.
Under "normal" circumstances, really none of us believe he'd have an ice cube's chance in hell of doing much of anything in a Presidential election...or primary, for that matter. In fact, a large minority of us would love to see someone really smart like Ben Carson win the nomination. He seems to be very level-headed, diplomatic, moderately conservative, non-political (can get very smart people around him as well), etc.
So what has made this "season" un-normal. The large majority of us believe it all has to do with Obama's divisiveness of our country. It appears he has alienated so many people that those folks are looking for a voice, no matter how obnoxious, to let the politicians know just how fed up they are with the current administration - in no small part, due to the "old guard" GOP just letting Obama run roughshod over them. None of us honestly believe Trump would have gotten the "time-of-day" 8 years ago - basically would have been laughed off the stage. It appears though, he has hit in the "perfect storm". Will be interesting to see if he continues with this momentum, or if cooler heads will prevail. None of us believe Trump will improve the situation, just a different version of Obama's divisiveness. Can he win - we're afraid he could. Will he win - don't know.
God help us all.
