Doing some bored browsing around the college baseball landscape after we SMACKED the Mustard Buzzards... feel free to add anything interesting you've seen.
A. How the actual sh!t is Florida ranked #6 with a record of 12-8........ they just lost another midweek to Jacksonville. Florida is 3-4 in midweek games with losses to Jacksonville, UCF, Stetson, and Florida St.
B. Erik Bakich has Clemson ROLLING. Series win against top 10 Duke, plus a 2 game "sweep" over South Carolina. 18-2 overall. He's good.
C. Charlie Condon at UGA has absurd hitting numbers. Dude rolled a 1-8 against Kentucky last weekend and is still hitting .513 w/ 14 HRs. He has more home runs(14) than strikeouts(12)
D. Florida St is undefeated at 19-0 and they may have the best rotation in college baseball. Check the stats:
- That is Al and Mark Leiter's nephew by the way... cousin of Jack Leiter. Hell of a baseball family.
- FSU has a TEAM batting average against of .208....
E. I hate to do this because he's a good kid..... but Payton Chatagnier hit the wall at TCU that we were all too familiar with........ he's 3 for his last 31 at-bats....
F. Last thought...... it really feels like the transfer portal has some of the biggest effects on baseball compared to football and basketball. The rankings are going to shift pretty wildly in the 15-25 range IMO until a clear separation happens. Ole Miss and State catapulting into some rankings this week seems like evidence of that. College baseball has the fewest people covering it nationally, and it seems like it's hard for them to get a good guage on exactly how good some teams are until the season starts to play out. Really interested to see what trends the first few SEC weekends shows us.
