I have a couple of thoughts to put a bow on the Tennessee series.
First, other than Doyle, this Tennessee team was no worse than anyone else we played. But who cares about them anymore? It’s just an observation.
To me, the play of the weekend was Sanford’s error in the first inning Sunday. It cost Nichols a run and about 12 more pitches. Making that play would have kept the lineup from turning over as fast as it did. It would have allowed Nichols to come out for the 5th. It would have pushed everyone in the bullpen back an inning. Maybe Hooks comes in to start the 6th with no runners on, which suits him more. Also, I definitely would have pitched Caney in the 9th. Not because I don’t like Jones, but Caney showed something in that KY close.
That error started the chain of events that pushed the bullpen in early. He hit the ball all day Sunday, so my hats off to him for that. My point isn’t to dump on Sanford as much as to say how close we are.
Same vs. Arkansas, game 3 vs. FL, game 1 KY. We are close, not there yet, but close.
