Bama has (5) 3*'s on their 2-deep. Bama signed (28) 3*'s over the past 4 recruiting cycles. Many of these were top-rated 3*'s. So, why aren't they seeing the field?!? Of the the remaining players on their 2-deep - 1/3 are 5*'s and the remaining are obviously 4*'s. We'll never really know if their 3* players were busts or not, because the guys ahead of them are pretty darn talented.
Another way to look at this, they had about (75) 4 & 5* recruits in the last 4 recruiting cycles. That means, 58 of those players are NOT currently on the 2-deep - take away some that are already in the NFL, some that have been "processed" (busts in the minds of the Bama coaches) and some of the freshmen that will crack the 2-deep...just not this year.
This is what we're up against. When we have injuries, we've maybe got a good 3* player behind them right now. Bama just fills the gap with about the same amount of talent. We've obviously made great strides in filling in the talent gap, but we're still a long, long way from being elite. We made a dent with the 2013 class, but to compete...without such a slim margin for error...we need to replicate the 2013 class 3 out of every 4 years. And with our history, that is just simply going to be a tall task until we prove we belong.
I say all this to say, be patient. We've got the talent to compete as long as we don't have "key" injuries, but Freeze & Co. still have quite the mountain to climb. Did any of you seriously believe we'd just get top 10 classes every year right out of the gate with this staff...considering the dumpster fire Nutt left us (historically, it's literally impossible to make that type of turn-around). We're not playing in the freaking ACC. This is a man's league. I am still pissed that we lost to Tiger High, but to think we could get EVERY need filled in 4 short years is...so much bovine caca!!! Not saying this staff has been anywhere near perfect, but geez...cut them a little slack. We're making progress, especially considering the players that have NOT been on the field for the last 3 games. And at least on the recruiting front they're trying to complete against Bama, lsuX, Georgia, FSU etc.
