You learn something new every night, it seems...

Friday night, the Twins were in Oakland to play the As...

Twins up 5-4 with two outs in the top of the eighth.. Twins get runners at first and third.. As' reliever Newcomb comes in.. Throws two pitches to the hitter, then picks off the runner at first... side retired..

As' score two runs in the bottom of the eighth to take a 6-5 lead..

Top of the ninth, As put in another reliever, Miller. who retires the Twins 1-2-3, end of game.. Miller gets the save..

Newcomb got the win because he was still the pitcher of record when the As took the lead in the bottom of the 8th..

Officially, even though Newcomb threw two pitches to the batter, it did not count as a batter faced because there wasn't a ball in play or a walk or a strike out..

That's wild, to be credited with a win without officially facing a batter..

I've honestly never heard of that one...
