It’s fascinating to keep up with.
Don’t get me wrong, recruiting has always been a glorified version of sales. You give your pitch, you identify the decision maker, you find out what matters most and you don’t let up until pen hits paper.
HS recruiting you want the last visit. But this version is more like closing a major deal. You want the first visit and you do all you can to close them right then and there. You put the full court press and shoot your best shot while they are in front of you.
If they leave without a deal, it doesn’t mean it’s over but it diminishes your chances greatly. Some prospects are “five pounders” so you do what you have to do, others are desired but not required, so you have a firm cut off. If they take it, great, if not, you move on.
It’s just wild to me this is where we are. But honestly, as a salesman by trade, it’s fun to watch in real time.
