A NEW SERIES
This is the first-ever meeting between Ole Miss and Detroit Mercy on the basketball court, and the second of four contests against first-time opponents for the Rebels this season. They have also taken on Eastern Washington (W, 75-64), and will face Mount St. Mary's, and Bryant for the first time.
Against the Horizon League, Ole Miss owns a 2-0 record all-time. They previously defeated Oakland 71-46 on December 5, 1992, and IUPUI 77-70 on December 21, 2001.
SCOUTING THE TITANS
Detroit Mercy has begun the season 0-2, dropping their opener 94-60 against Toledo before falling to Cincinnati 93-61. The Titans owned a record of 14-19 last year, going 9-11 in the Horizon League.
Through their first two games, they have been led in scoring by senior guard Jayden Stone, who dropped 15 against Toledo before scoring 25 against Cincinnati. Stone also leads the team in rebounding, averaging 5.5 to begin the year. Guard Donovann Toatley paced the team offensively in the season opener with 20 points.
The Titans are led by head coach Mike Davis, now in his sixth season at Detroit Mercy. Like Beard, Davis is part of the Bob Knight coaching tree, and helped lead Indiana to the 2002 NCAA Championship game at the helm. Now in his 24th season as a collegiate head coach, Davis has amassed 411 career victories, ranking 45th among active coaches in the nation.
A NEW ERA BEGINS
With the hiring of Chris Beard last March, the Ole Miss men's basketball program is prepared to take the next step forward, bringing in one of the most successful coaches of the last decade.
Compiling a record of 239-98 as an NCAA head coach since 2012, Beard holds one of the highest win percentages in the nation, ranking 14th among active head coaches with 10 or more years of experience at 70.9%.
The 2019 AP National Coach of the Year has led three different programs to the NCAA Tournament over the previous eight years, and is undefeated in the opening round at 5-0. His all-time record in the NCAA Tournament is 11-5 (.688).
EYES UP HIGH
On Friday, October 27th, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced their 20-member watch list for the 2024 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year award. For the second consecutive year, Jamarion Sharp saw his name on that list.
"I CAN BE YOUR LONG LOST PAL"
After posting the third double-double of his career in the season opener (15 points, career-best 12 rebounds), Allen Flanigan followed it up with a career-best 29 points against Eastern Washington. The senior guard also surpassed the 1,000 career-point mark against the Eagles, and played a key part in securing the victory by scoring eight of the last 11 points for the Rebels.

VALUED LEADERSHIP
The Ole Miss men's basketball coaching staff is one of the more experienced around the country. Entering his 14th year as a collegiate head coach, Chris Beard is joined on the court by former head coaches Win Case (16 years), Brian Burg (three years), and Wes Flanigan (two years). Assistant coach Bob Donewald Jr. has 16 years of head coaching experience at the professional and national level, while assistant Al Pinkins has been an associate or assistant coach at six different NCAA Division-I programs, including four within the SEC. The Ole Miss coaching staff has experience at five other SEC programs: Auburn, Florida, LSU, Mississippi State, and Tennessee.
TRANSFER TO THE 'SIP
Head coach Chris Beard and the Ole Miss coaching staff put together one of the top transfer classes in the conference, bringing in seven new players that will help punctuate Beard's emphasis on defense. Two of the top active career leaders in blocked shots, Moussa Cisse (Oklahoma State) and Jamarion Sharp (Western Kentucky) will set a strong presence down low, coming to Ole Miss with a combined 441 career blocks.
Guard Allen Flanigan (Auburn) brings over 100 games of experience, and is among the active career leaders in minutes played with 2,728. He scored nearly 1,000 points while at Auburn and grabbed just under 500 boards, adding 74 steals on defense.
After spending last season at Georgetown, Brandon Murray returns to the SEC, a conference he played in two years ago at LSU. The guard was selected to the Freshman All-SEC Team in 2022 and brings a combination of scoring (11.7 points per game) and strong defense (1.2 steals per game).
A trio of guards round out the Ole Miss transfer class. Jaylen Murray (St. Peter's) and Austin Nunez (Arizona State) give Beard a pair of point guards, each of which have displayed the ability to score. Spending two years at Northeast Mississippi CC and a pair at Blue Mountain, Cole McGrath gives the Rebels a shooting guard with big shot-making ability.

Ranked as the top player in the state of Georgia by ESPN, Bol has developed a reputation as one of the hardest playing big men in the country.

A combo guard from the prestigious NBA Academy Latin America, Klafke will come to Oxford from Franca-Sao Paulo, Brazil. One of the top international players in his age group, he has consistently played above his age while representing Brazil on the national stage, playing in U19 games as a 17-year-old. Klafke will help bring a spark to the offense as an elite shooter and is excellent in playing both on and off the ball.
