SEC BASEBALL WEEKLY HONORS – APRIL 8, 2024
Co-Player of the Week: Christian Moore, Tennessee
Tennessee’s Christian Moore helped lead the Volunteers to their first road series win at Auburn since 2005. The junior second baseman recorded multiple hits, multiple RBIs and homered in all three games against the Tigers. Moore’s three long balls were tied for the most among SEC players this week while his 10 RBIs were tied for second most. He also led the league with 19 total bases. Moore’s three hits and career-high six RBIs led the Vols to a bounce-back win against Auburn on Saturday. His second-inning grand slam proved to be the game-winning hit in Saturday’s 12-2 run-rule victory. Moore capped the weekend with another home run to go along with two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored in the series finale.
Co-Player of the Week: Jayden Davis, Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt’s Jayden Davis led all SEC hitters with a .583 average this week, helping lead the Commodores to a series win over ranked LSU in Baton Rouge. Davis went 7-for-12 in the series and drove in eight runs with a home run and three doubles. In Game 2 at LSU, Davis hit a go-ahead, two-run home run in the top of the eighth to give the Dores their first lead since the third inning and help even the series. In the finale, Davis went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two RBI and two runs scored as Vandy run-ruled the Tigers in eight innings to win the series.
Pitcher of the Week: Dominic Niman, Kentucky
Kentucky’s Dominic Niman threw a complete game shutout to help the Wildcats clinch the series vs. No. 11 Alabama on Saturday. Niman allowed just three hits, walked none and struck out seven on 100 pitches. It is just the second CG shutout in the SEC this season and only by a SEC pitcher vs. a conference opponent. No Alabama player reached third and only one reached second, and the three hits allowed marked the fewest by Alabama this season.
Freshman of the Week: Nolan Souza, Arkansas
Arkansas true freshman infielder Nolan Souza slashed a team-leading .571/.571/1.286 with a team-high three home runs and a team-best nine RBI during the Razorbacks’ undefeated week, which included a weekend series sweep against Ole Miss. Souza had three multi-hit games, including two multi-hit performances in the weekend series against the Rebels, and a pair of multi-RBI games, including a five-RBI effort in the Razorbacks’ series-sweeping win. Souza’s two-homer game in the series finale against Ole Miss on Saturday was his second two-homer game of the season.
