SEC In The NCAA Tournament

· Fourteen of the SEC’s 16 teams (87.5 percent) were selected to the 2025 NCAA Tournament, breaking the Big East’s record of 11 for the 2011 tournament.

· The SEC’s previous record for NCAA Tournament selections was eight (2018, 2023, and 2024).

· Twenty-four SEC men’s and women’s teams were selected for the NCAA Tournament. Every SEC school is participating in the tournament.

· Two SEC teams were selected as No. 1 seeds (Auburn and Florida). It is the first time since 1980 (LSU and Kentucky) that the SEC had two No. 1 seeds.

· Six SEC teams received Top 4 seeds - 1Auburn, 1Florida, 2Alabama, 2Tennessee, 3Kentucky, 4Texas A&M. That breaks the previous SEC record of four (2024).

· The SEC has had 57 NCAA Tournament selections over the last seven tournaments (8.1 selections per tournament).

· All 16 SEC teams have made at least one NCAA Tournament appearance since 2022.

· The SEC has had at least one team advance to the Sweet 16 in 33 of the last 34 tournaments.

· Nine different SEC teams have advanced to the Sweet 16 in the last seven NCAA Tournaments. All 16 SEC members have advanced to the Sweet 16 since 1996.

· The SEC has advanced at least one team to the Elite Eight in 10 of the last 14 tournaments.

· The SEC has advanced a team in the Final Four seven of the last 13 tournaments.

· Eleven different SEC teams (Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Texas) have appeared in the Final Four.

· 1 Auburn: 14th appearance ... 6th under head coach Bruce Pearl ... 19-13 all-time record ... Second No. 1 seed in school history (1999) ... First No. 1 overall seed in school history ... Appeared in 2019 Final Four.

· 1 Florida: 23rd appearance ... 45-20 all-time record ... No. 1 seed for third time in school history (2007 and 2014) ... 2006 and 2007 national champions.

· 9 Georgia: 10th appearance ... 5-10 all-time record ... First appearance since 2015 ... Advanced to 1983 Final Four.

· 3 Kentucky: 52nd appearance ... 130-55 all-time record ...5th No. 3 seed and second in a row ... Holds NCAA records for NCAA Tournament appearances, games played and is second in wins ... Eight-time national champions and 17 Final Four appearances.

· 6 Ole Miss: 10th appearance ... 5-9 all-time record ... Highest seed since 2001 when received a No. 3 seed ... Fourth program head coach Chris Beard has led to the NCAA Tournament.

· 8 Mississippi State: 14th appearance ... 11-13 all-time record ... Third straight appearance ... Appeared in the 1996 Final Four.

· 6 Missouri: 30th appearance ... 23-29 all-time record ... Highest seed since 2012 (No. 2) ... Have advanced as far as the Elite Eight five times (1944, 1976, 1994, 2002 and 2009).

· 9 Oklahoma: 34th appearance ... 42-33 all-time record ... First appearance since 2021 ... 30th appearance since 1983 which is tied for 10th most during that span ... Five Final Four appearances (1939, 1947, 1988, 2002, 2016).

· 2 Tennessee: 27th appearance ... 28-27 all-time record ... Second straight year as a No. 2 seed ... program-best 7th appearance in a row ... Head coach Rick Barnes is leading fourth different team to the tournament and owns a 20-28 record in the tournament.

· 11 Texas: 39th appearance ... 40-41 all-time record ... Making fifth straight appearance ... 23rd NCAA appearance in last 26 seasons ... Three Final Four appearances (1943, 1947, and 2003).

· 4 Texas A&M: 17th appearance ... 14-17 all-time record ... Making three-straight appearances for first time since making six in a row (2006-11) ... No. 4 seed is second-best in school history (No. 3 in 2007 and 2016).

· 10 Vanderbilt: 16th appearance ... 10-16 all-time record .. First NCAA appearance since 2017 ... Have made five Sweet 16s and one Elite Eight (1965).



SEC In The NET


· Four of the top six teams in the NCAA’s NET rankings were from the SEC: Auburn 2nd, Florida 4th, Tennessee 5th, and Alabama 6th.

· The SEC led the nation with seven teams ranked in the Top 20 and 14 in the Top 50 of the NET.

· SEC teams amassed 120 Quad 1 wins and 196 wins against Quad 1 & 2 teams combined. Equally as telling is that the SEC was 148-2 against Quads 3 & 4.

· The SEC averaged 7.50 Quad 1 wins per team and 12.25 Quad 1+2 wins per team, both lead the nation.

· Auburn led the nation with 16 Quad 1 wins while Alabama, Florida, Kentucky and Tennessee were tied for fifth with 11 Quad 1 wins.



More Metrics


· The SEC’s +22.03 KenPom rating is the highest rating in history, breaking the ACC’s +21.37 record in 1997.

· Five of the top eight teams in KenPom’s Adjusted Offensive Efficiency entering the NCAA Tournament are from the SEC: Florida 1st, Auburn 2nd, Alabama 4th, Missouri 5th, and Kentucky 8th.

· Four SEC teams entered the NCAA Tournament ranked in the Top Six of KenPom’s team rankings, seven are in the Top 20, 14 are in the Top 50 and all 16 teams ranked in the Top 90.



In The Polls


· Four of the top seven teams and seven of the top 25 teams in the Associated Press Poll are from the SEC.

· Florida is ranked No. 3 in the AP Poll while Auburn is No. 4, Tennessee is No. 6, Alabama is No. 7, Kentucky 18th, Texas A&M 19th, and Missouri 23rd.

· The SEC occupies four of the top eight spots in the Coaches’ Poll: Florida 3rd, Auburn 4th, Tennessee 6th, and Alabama 8th.

· Eighty-eight percent (14 of 16) of the SEC’s teams have been ranked by the AP this season, tying the record set by the ACC in 1983-84 (7 of 8 teams ranked)

· The SEC has had at least nine teams ranked in 12 of the 20 Associated Press polls this season.

· The SEC’s 10 teams ranked in the Dec. 23, Dec. 30 and Jan. 27 polls are the most by a conference since the Associated Press began compiling a weekly poll during the 1948-49 season.



Worth Noting


· Auburn earned its fifth SEC regular season title, the third of which has come under the direction of head coach Bruce Pearl.

· Florida won its first SEC Tournament since 2014 and the fifth in school history.

· Thirteen SEC teams entered the NCAA Tournament with at least 20 wins. No other conference had more than eight teams with 20 or more wins.

· Forty-three of the SEC’s 144 (29.8 percent) league games featured two ranked teams playing each other.

· Six SEC teams (Auburn 1st, Alabama 2nd, Florida 4th, Tennessee 5th, Texas A&M 6th, and Kentucky 10th overall) were listed in the NCAA Selection Committee’s Top 16 rankings on Feb. 15.

· Eleven SEC schools tied or broke their record for number of games played against AP Top 25 teams during the regular season: Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Vanderbilt.

· The Feb. 15 Auburn at Alabama game marked the first No. 1 vs. No. 2 AP match up in conference history.



Honors and Accomplishments


· Auburn’s Johni Broome, Florida’s Walter Clayton Jr. and Alabama’s Mark Sears have each been named first team All-America by the Associated Press and The Sporting News. Tennessee’s Zakai Zeigler was a third team selection by both outlets. Tennessee’s Chaz Lanier was named to The Sporting News third team and honorable mention by the Associated Press.

· Three SEC coaches rank among the winningest active coaches in the nation: John Calipari (1st/834 wins), Rick Barnes (2nd/833 wins) and Bruce Pearl (11th/690 wins).

· Five coaches have been named national coach of the year: Rick Barnes, Chris Beard, John Calipari, Bruce Pearl and Rodney Terry.

· Six coaches have coached in the Final Four: Rick Barnes, Chris Beard, John Calipari, Nate Oats, Porter Moser and Bruce Pearl.



Non-Conference Recap


· SEC teams won 88.9 percent (185-23) of their non-conference games this season. That tops the nine-team ACC in 2003-04 that had a 88.2 winning percentage (75-10) in games before New Year’s Day.

· SEC teams are 59-19 (75.6 percent) against teams from the ACC (30-4), Big 12 (14-2), Big East (5-4) and Big Ten (10-9).

· SEC teams posted a 21-7 record against non-conference teams ranked in the Associated Press Top 25, including a 6-2 mark against teams ranked in the Top 10.

· South The SEC’s 21 regular-season, non-conference Top 25 wins were eight more than any other league has ever had in a season (per former ESPN researcher Jared Berson).

· The SEC entered conference play 51-22 (69.9 percent) vs. Top 100 teams in Bart Torvik’s ratings system. No other conference was better than .500 against the Top 100.

· The SEC dominated the second annual SEC/ACC Challenge, winning 14-2. The average margin of victory in the 14 SEC wins was 16.2 points while the margin in the two losses was 3.5 points.

· Five SEC teams won MTE titles this season: Auburn (Maui Invitational), Florida (ESPN Events Invitational), Oklahoma (Battle 4 Atlantis), Tennessee (Baha Mar Hoops Bahamas Championship), and Texas (Legends Classic).

· The last three undefeated teams in the nation were all from the SEC with Tennessee being the last to fall and was preceded by Oklahoma and Florida.



It Just Means More Fans


· The SEC led the nation by averaging 11,648 fans per game during the 2025 regular season. Overall, the SEC ranked second nationally with a conference record 3,168,245 fans attending games during the 2025 regular season.

· The top three attendance leaders in 2025 are from the SEC. Kentucky led the nation with a total attendance of 366,007 (20,334 average), Arkansas ranked second with 341,935 fans (18,996 average) and Tennessee was third with 340,436 fans (20,026 average).



After School Program


· Eight of the 26 players announced as 2025 NBA All-Stars attended SEC schools: Kevin Durant (PHX/TX), Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (OKC/UK), Karl-Anthony Towns (NYK/UK), Anthony Davis (DAL/UK), Anthony Edwards, (MIN/UG), Darius Garland (CLE/VU), Tyler Herro (MIA/UK), and Trae Young (ATL/OU).

· Twenty-two percent of the players on NBA Opening Day rosters that attended college went to SEC schools. The SEC led all conferences with 103 players on NBA Opening Day rosters.

· 65 SEC players have been selected in the last seven NBA Drafts. That leads all conferences: 57 ACC, 46 Pac-12, 45 Big Ten, 34 Big 12 and 27 Big East.

· 38 SEC players have been selected in the first round of the last seven NBA Drafts. That leads the nation: 35 ACC, 23 Pac-12, 19 Big Ten, 18 Big 12 and 13 Big East.

· 20 NBA Draft Lottery picks in the last seven years are the most in the nation. That leads the nation: 15 ACC, 10 Big 12, 10 Big Ten, 7 Pac-12, and Big East 6.

· Eight former SEC players were named to the 2024 NBA All-Star roster.

· Four players from SEC schools were members of the USA Basketball’s gold medal winning team at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

· The SEC ranked second nationally with 2,826,719 fans attending games during the 2023-24 season. An average of 11,633 fans attended games at SEC schools in 2024, an increase of 289 from 2023.

· Three of the top five attendance leaders in 2023-24 were from the SEC. Kentucky ranked third in the nation with a total attendance of 358,702 (19,928 average), Tennessee ranked fourth with 314,617 fans (19,664 average) and Arkansas was fifth with 343,905 fans (19,106 average).
