Dear Sir,
I understand presenting the news in such a politically correct charged society can be a challenge.
I believe there can be a tricky balance between reporting and offending, and I would imagine sometimes the lines can get blurred.
However, in the case of the picture of an injured Robert Nkemdiche, as you guys released with the title: "Smash Hit!”, I believe a very bold line was crossed.
There is no doubt that the win by the Tigers Saturday was one of the best wins in program history and many of your readers want to see you guys report on that game in a special way. You also have many Ole Miss fans reading your paper. I just believe more pictures of Paxton Lynch, and the rest of the team, in action would have been in much better taste. He is one of, if not the, best quarterbacks in the country. He just won one of the biggest games in program history and put Memphis Tiger football on the map (where, by the way, I believe it should be this year). Yet someone at your paper decided to include a picture of an injured player on the opposing team, which I believe to be very inappropriate. To me, that was not only disrespectful to an injured student-athlete, but focused on only one play (which did not decide the game). Memphis didn’t win because of one play which caused an injury. Memphis won because of multiple plays they made throughout the game.
Two apologies may be in order:
One to, Robert Nkemdiche, his family, the University of Mississippi, and Ole Miss fans…. and another to Paxton Lynch and the Memphis Tigers football team for centering such a big win on one defensive stop.
Paxton Lynch is the "Smash Hit” for Memphis Tiger football, not what I saw reported by you guys.
Thank you for reading.
