Well, all our Springs sports teams have now finished very disappointing seasons, as both golf teams had abysmal disappointing finishes in the SEC and NCAA Tournaments. But we will give them a break, at least they were in their tourneys, even if the men flopped in the Regionals as a two seed and the women first 30th, dead last, at the Nationals.

But there are four other Spring sports that are in awful shape and there is a deafening silence about the future on three of them.

In case anyone has been living on Mars, here were the records:

Baseball 11-20 in SEC Finished 12/14 in the league. Chase said they overachieved, should have won 8 games. Missed NCAA Tourney for second straight year.

Softball 8-18 in SEC Finished 13/13 In the SEC. Made tournament and lost two straight, including a loss to an Ivy

Tennis (women) 5-9 in the SEC Finished 10/14. Missed the Tourney for the third straight year and this was their third SEC losing season in a row. They have not won an NCAA Tournamant match since 2018.

Tennis (Men) 2-11 in the SEC Finished 12/13 in SEC, but lost to #13 LSU in play-in game at SEC Tourney. Obviously, missed the NCAA Tournament. This team is 13-27 in the SEC over the last three years and has missed the Tourney two of the last three years.

So our four programs finished a combined 26-58 in the SEC and won just one SEC Tournament game/match and no NCAA tournament games. And over the last two years, these four programs are a combined 51-117 in league play, with no winning seasons.

We can start with baseball, obviously in a sane world Mike would be toast, but no need to beat that one to death. He returns because of a very bad contract we gave him when there was no reason to give it to him-certainly not six years-and cannot afford the $7.7 million buy-out, nuff said.

On to softball, I know the excuse that she needs a Stadium, but the program has gotten worse every year she has been here and our best players off a last-place team are flocking to the portal. It has been four years, it is not working, Keith make the move.

Women’s tennis has been bad for a long time. In a league where almost every SEC team makes the Tourney, Byers has missed it three straight years with a 15-29 SEC record. This was his 21st year, what are we waiting on here? He has not won an NCAA Tourney match in 6 years.

Men’s Tennis really use to be our best program on campus and always hosted a regional NCAA Tournament, but are now 13-27 in the SEC over the last three years with just one NCAA Tourney win and our best player, our #2 player and our #4 player are now out of eligibility. This year they were absolutely embarrassed on the courts by State who shut us out with us winning just one set. This is a very bad program and, again, use to be the best on campus. Tony Hansen just completed his tenth season.

I know most people here do not care, but what is Keith thinking here, are there no standards for retaining a coaching job at Ole Miss? I cannot believe that he has given Trachsel, Byers and Hansen all long term contracts, as they have each been bad for years. None of them have a Natty excuse or even one decent season in years. Surely we can afford to make some changes, by this point none of them should have any buy-out. Are these just jobs for life?
