OXFORD -- Ole Miss' Stefan Moody was named SEC player of the week on Monday, after scoring 51 points in two games.
Moody had 29 points against Mississippi State on Thursday, then came back to score 22 against Tennessee on Saturday. The Rebels (19-8, 10-4 SEC) needed all of them to pull out the pair of close wins.
Moody, a junior, is averaging 16.4 points per game this season for the Rebels, and is making 41.4 percent of his field goals and 38.6 percent of his 3-pointers. He's also leading the team in steals, with 47, and has already won SEC player of the week once.
But this week was on another level, and not just because of the total points. Moody made eight 3-pointers against Mississippi State, and then six more against Tennessee. He had 10 steals in the two games, including four in four minutes as the Rebels rallied back to beat the Volunteers. He also only had one turnover in 70 minutes on the floor.
"He should be considered for (SEC player of the year)," Georgia coach Mark Fox said. "I'm not sure anybody has been able to guard him."
Ole Miss plays host to Georgia on Wednesday.
