100 years ago or so it was the Pac 8- USC, UCLA, Stanford, Cal, Wash, Wash St, Oregon, Oregon St. In '78, they added Arizona and Arizona State and became the Pac 10. In 2011, they added Colorado and Utah and became the Pac 12.

Next year, Oregon, Wash, USC and UCLA will be in the Big 10. Colorado is moving to the Big 12, and ESPN is saying that Arizona has applied to and been admitted to the Big 12, and that there are some serious conversations between the Big 12 and Utah and Arizona State.

That leaves California, Stanford, Oregon State and Washington State, and a tv deal that expires after the 2023-24 school year.

Well, that escalated quickly.

And what's interesting is that the current Pac 12 commissioner, George Kliavkoff, has been on the job for 2 years. There was a 5 person search committee that did the hiring, which included the presidents of Oregon, Washington, Colorado and USC.

What are the 4 remaining schools going to do? If the Big 12 or Big 10 wanted them, they'd probably know it by now. Not many TV eyes on those 4. A merger with the Mountain West would look to keep everybody at the G 5 level.

This is all so messed up. Conference opponents that are 3 time zones over. UCLA playing womens tennis at Maryland. Makes no sense.
