Well football started back and summer doesn't want to let go apparently. Man it was hot. As most of you know I took the opportunity with UT Martin to score some extra tickets and take some kids for a game. My main motivation for doing so was to take Aaron. He is my nephew and is 11 years old. He doesn't have down syndrome but he is a special needs kid. Most of you know I took Alan from the UMMC two years ago. Think him but age 11. I also took about 8 other kids. I want to thank those that gave me tickets or charged me a minimal amount for them. Most were given to me. Those that weren't I paid pennies on the dollar for them. Thank you very much Rebel Grove! You made some kids very very happy saturday. Hope I don't miss names here. I know I don't remember everyone's screen name. One guy I know his name but don't remember his screen name. But know I really appreciated the tickets man! Rez, NolaReb, TailgaterReb and Christopher again THANK YOU!
We got there at the stadium just as the team was walking through. Aaron and the others got to high five the players. There is a picture of him high fiving RN. He thought that was the coolest thing in the world. Walking through the Grove and into the stadium I had to constantly steer him. Because he wouldn't watch where he was walking. He would walk and just turn in circles looking at all the people and stuff. We finally got to our seats and all. He's all excited and such. The band comes out and starts playing. From that point on he just stands and stares in amazement. The lock the vaught came on and he's watching the players on the jumbotron and the "I am an Ole Miss Rebel" came on. Man I thought the kid was going to wet his pants. He kept telling me all the way home it was the best day of his life and even christmas couldn't be better.
We stayed the entire game. I mean even listened to the band at the end. He couldn't stop talking about how good OM was. The other kids too. I realized, man they don't care who we played. All they know is that we won, by a lot. They just got joy out of just simply being able to be there and watch. The privilege of watching and being able to shout and cheer and wave the red pom poms was all they needed to enjoy OM football. They didn't nitpick or worry about who played where and why. All they knew was there was a team dressed in Red and that was the team they cheered for and in the end they won. Boy I sure wish some of us adults could just stop and enjoy the good things we get to do sometimes. Remember guys sometimes it could be worse. Saturday I could have been having to work to try to make money to pay bills. But I wasn't. I am blessed to be able to take friends and family to an OM game and even though it was hot as Hades we got to sit and watch some football. God Bless America!
