So what happens if everyone just says the hell with the NCAA and just forms their own body with their own by laws? does it stop the Alabamas of the world or only feed them

Depends if Bamer is part of it or not. If I had @ 15 billion to waste I would take the top 60 or so programs and offer them a dollar amount to join the new organization. They would receive differing amounts depending on their ability to generate funds on their own. For example if Boise State were a participant they would receive an endowment larger than U of Texas. Each school would have to commit to the organization for 30 years. The rules of recruitment would be simple. You can pay a player all you want, but they must go to class, take drug screenings, stay out of jail. These are the things that can be monitored (well, mostly). Each school could be competitive if they managed their endowment correctly.
I am convinced This is the only way to do it without going to an NFL lottery type system that totally takes away the student athlete’s choice away from him. The Sabanites would grumble about it because it would take away their NCAA cheaters loophole. The only people in the country that thinks Bama doesn’t cheat are the delusional Bama fans.
Gotta disagree on one point. Bama fans know they cheat. Hell they are complicit in said cheating and have been since the days of that whore chasing, player-paying drunkard bear bryant.
Most Bama fans know they cheat. In a recent conversation with a Bama fan, he said that Bama knows how to take care of their players. He also indicated that Bama will do whatever it takes to stay on top.
