To Jeffrey's point the other day, in Freeze's first couple of years he used a different scheme to offset the lack of talent. This year Freeze has preached balance (see his comments after Vandy) and has even forced the issue on the field to the point his players (Treadwell) and fans are questioning his play calling. For the first time Freeze seems hell bent on running the football and being a balanced team. This is a positive in my book because he seems to understand the importance of it.
My question is this, after years of solid seasons and falling short while being a finese team is it possible that Freeze came into the season realizing that we won't succeed and reach Atlanta without improvement up front and running the ball---to the point where he's put Luke and other coaches on notice that the peformance has to improve?
Look at Vandy and then look at Florida and the defense they ran...they were begging us to run the ball and we couldn't do it. Most coaches run the ball in that scenarios folks, Freeze knows that. The only problem is we can't do it effectively, in fact we are completley inept in that aspect.
Freeze isn't the kind of guy who will make changes without giving someone a fair shot and umm...well this is season four and the line has shown little improvement. Is it possible that Freeze has said hell with it, I can't continue to manufacture offense and he was using this as a litmus test?
And for the folks who will tell me you don't experiment or force an issue in such a big game, please understand that most coaches are going to run the ball against that type of defense.
