If there is ANY person who is affiliated with Ole Miss in any way that expected anything other than what happened tonight with the release of the latest CFP rankings, then we either have not been alive long enough to know, haven't been a fan long enough to know, or just don't care one way or the other. Here are a couple of examples that have occurred in my lifetime:
1. 2001 - Ole Miss, led by a dynamic sophomore QB named Eli Manning, defeated Alabama at VHS in the rain 27-24 (I was there, it was glorious) for the 1st time in 13 years. Ole Miss started 6-1, but faltered down the stretch and finished 7-4. Alabama recovered from a terrible start to finish 6-5. The last SEC bowl bid was a trip to Shreveport for the Independence Bowl. Alabama got the bid and we stayed home even though we had a better record and had defeated them head-to-head.
2. 2011 - #1 Alabama loses at home 9-6 in OT to #2 LSU in November. LSU is rewarded with getting to play Georgia in the SECCG. Alabama is rewarded with getting to rest and get extra preparation for a rematch in the BCS Championship game. Alabama wins the National Championship despite not even winning their DIVISION.
3. 2017 - Alabama loses the West division to Auburn in the Iron Bowl. Auburn is rewarded with having to play a rematch with Georgia in the SECCG. Alabama gets the #4 slot and wins the National Championship AGAIN, despite not even winning their division.
4. Only 2 programs have made the CFP despite not winning their division, Alabama and Ohio State. Alabama has won 2 Nattys in this manner.
5. I did not watch the made-for-TV drama show "Revealing" the top 12 for the CFP. I already knew. Anyone with a pulse knew. The Committee added insult to injury by placing Miami in front of us and behind Alabama as an insurance policy. I watched Michael Borkey's reaction and he said something that we all are thinking, putting the situation in very simple terms. He spoke about Ole Miss having no one to blame but themselves. I agree completely. We shouldn't have lost to Kentucky. That said, they weren't as awful in September as they finished. They beat UGA everywhere but the final score (13-12) 2 weeks before coming to Oxford. What happened to Oklahoma the week before AND after they DESTROYED Alabama? Why does Alabama ALWAYS get a pass? Anyway, back to Borkey. He closed his pod with this statement, IF you take our resume, or USCe's for that matter, and give them to Alabama, and give either one of us theirs, Alabama will STILL GET IN! History tells us that! No matter the format, Alabama is always going to come out smelling like a rose. Its like that, that's the way it is! #STILLCORRUPT
ETA: I am not even going to begin to discuss the number of favorable calls that Alabama has gotten over the years. Instant replay has quelled some of the obvious bias, but Alabama always gets the call ON THE FIELD, giving them a 2 out of 3 chance on review.
I knew this was going to happen. I stated it in my week 12 review. I guess the committee placing Miami between us and Alabama as insurance just triggered me. That is all.
I would much rather them just tell us the truth instead of insulting our intelligence. They should just state the truth! Example: "We like Alabama, we are biased toward Alabama and teams like them that have a big brand, and they are getting in for no other reason than that! If you want to get in over Alabama, you need to have a better record than them, play better than them throughout the season, especially at the end, and beat them if you have a head-to-head game with them. IF YOU DO ALL OF THIS, WE WILL MOST LIKELY PUT YOU IN THE CFP OVER THEM!"
