Now do not misunderstand, they are not as good on paper as our team, but games are not won and lost on paper. They will be super fired up for us. Like USM, we are their Super Bowl game. The game will be in Memphis, where previous superior Rebel teams have went and faltered. 1987 and 2003 come to mind immediately in my lifetime where a superior Rebel team was beaten in front of a vocal and hostile LBMS crowd.
The 1987 loss killed our season as a very talented, but probation ridden Rebel team that went 8-3-1 the year before and had 18 starters back limped to a 3-8 finish. Dog Brewer stated that the team never recovered from the 16-10 loss to Memphis on opening night.
In 2003, DeAngelo Williams and Danny Wimprine just killed us and Taye Biddle dropped a sure TD that would have sealed the game as we lost 44-34.
I know that this is a different type of Ole Miss team with a different DNA, but history is to be studied and learned from or we are doomed to repeat it. Personally, I wish that we would not agree to play them in Memphis. I know all the recruiting arguments out there, but I am of the opinion that the risk outweighs the reward.
Those of us on this board that are discounting this game had better beware, we will get the very best that Memphis has to offer on October 17. Fear none, Respect all. That is all.
