at around the 20:30 mark Neal begins to talk about the background of many assistants on the current staff, Luke and Werner included. Essentially saying their coaching backgrounds are opposite of what Freeze has historically embraced in terms of an offensive philosophy. Neal even mentioned the OL being "too fat" to operate successfully in an up tempo scheme.
I have been on this board for over a year and have routinely asked all of you to address this and have been ignored. And yes I get it, you have jobs to do and paying attention to one subscriber is not your gig. But the red flag was there for all of you to see regardless of whether or not you were paying attention to my posts. Luke tweeted out a picture post 2012 season bragging about his OL weight gains. Seriously, how can you ignore that and continue to ignore it? It was a huge deal then and tells you almost everything you want to know about why this offensive staff and approach are one giant contradiction. A failing contradiction.
Were you discussing this behind the scenes and didn't mention it for "business" reasons? Similar to holding back on Jeffery's take that HF needs an offensive coordinator? Of did the thought just pop in your head on Saturday.
I posted it once again as recently as eleven days ago.....
SUBJECT: THIS IS LUKE AND WERNER
why is it so hard for y'all to figure out? Both spent their formative coaching years in run oriented, conservative pro style offenses. Both have egos, even though one was struggling at his job before getting this one and the other had no prospect of getting a job period
Hiring these two guys absolutely made no sense when you consider the type of offensive approach HF
ran at previous stops. To me, it was a major red flag. As 2013 approached it was obvious both Werner and Luke felt they had autonomy as Luke tweets out a picture of him and his OL at his home, bragging about their weight GAINS in the offseason. You heard that right, weight GAINS!
Freeze told anyone that would listen upon being hired that his line would be lean, agile, and well conditioned. The fact that Luke's picture didn't, at the very least, raise an eyebrow on the UM beat is preposterous. Then of course the issue with the OL last year according to most? They were too big, right? And that looking ahead to 2015 the OL was trying to shed pounds and get in shape. Why has everyone missed this?
As for Werner, he seemed smug in his appearance on the first Freeze era SEASON episode. Essentially telling everyone that HF's offense was no different than any other, or at least the plays were no different. It was simply run at a faster pace. Funny, we don't even do that anymore.
Tight splits and continuous runs between the guards. The guards. Hell, we might as well have John Latina calling the plays.
And as for Freeze, you just don't win big in this league with character education and love only. You eventually have to get into someone's ass. Freeze won't do it and more importantly isn't capable of doing it. Last week was an absolute disaster, a disaster. You now know the reasons why.
