True - but the girl was likely 18 or 19 yo.

The university should have immediately notified law enforcement when the young girl reported. Most larger law enforcement agencies have detectives that are trained to interview sexual assault victims and I'm willing to bet Knoxville has same. No school at any level has any real purpose in investigating reports of criminal activity other than to cover it up. I wonder if Tennessee recognizes misprision of a felony or compounding a felony? Some school official should be held accountable.

I say all this without any opinion of the validity of the accusation made by the young girl.

As a contrast to this, in the Vanderbilt rape case, the victim did not even report the crime-- she was in fact passed out and did not remember it taking place-- the university itself discovered it while reviewing security camera footage for an entirely separate case of vandalism in the same dorm. Regardless, they immediately turned the case over the Metro Nashville police. These are the differences between schools with integrity and schools where winning and protecting players-- even violent criminals-- is the most important.
