I was informed on yesterday by a source that Troy Head football coach Jon Sumrall is very serious about the opening in Starkville and that if offered, there is a good chance that he would accept the job. Sumrall has knowledge of the league and two years of winning football as a head coach under his belt. He has been a name of interest since the beginning of the search. I get the sense that State will work through the list of candidates and that there are a couple of candidates that they may wait to hear no from before taking the next step. Sumrall remains a serious candidate for the job and I am told has had multiple conversations with people acting on behalf of Mississippi State.
