We are where we thought, but not who we thought

It seems something is missing. I think most reasonable people thought 5-1 was very likely at this point. So we are there. But I expected a high energy, all over the field defense that we have seen the past few years. The energy and the passion just seem to be missing. Maybe we find it over these past 6 games but hard to just turn on the switch. I would expect Memphis to provide some bulletin board quotes this week - maybe that is what it takes. Or maybe losing Bird and Lewis (and Cody) was a bigger impact than I thought. If we can find the energy and play more aggressive with our pass rush, I am hopeful we can become a more dominant defense when it really counts.

Offensively we are ahead of where I thought we would be. Kelly is really solid and can stretch the field. He misses a few and makes a few bad decisions, but who doesn't. The OL has been through hell with Tunsil and injuries. Maybe they are going to get it going down the stretch. If they do, the run game will improve and the cover 2 becomes harder - the defense would need the extra tackler in the box.

On Special Teams - fair catch and don't block anyone in the back. Take it where it is.

Our schedule is tough but sets up well. Auburn, Memphis and State on the road. LSU Arkansas and Aggie at home. Remember Aggie has not left the state of Texas yet and they play Bama next week - I think they are overrated and will play differently against a vocal crowd.

Bottom line we have a shot. That is more than we have historically had. But we need to see a different energy if we expect anything special to happen. I am not sure we can find it. We will see
