IMO,
60's - The Beatles. Or maybe Elvis, but Elvis was also a great star in the 50's and even early/mid 70's, so I don't really think of him first when I think "sixties music". Beach Boys? Ehhh.
70's - The Eagles. Maybe Elton John would be second?
80's - Michael Jackson. Madonna a strong 2nd.
