Why is Cajun/Creole food spicy (or well spiced) when french food isn’t?

I mean I get Cajun isn’t French but isn’t that the vast majority of its influence? Where did the rest come from? I can’t think of any spicy French dishes. Canadian dishes aren’t spicy, are they?

And what’s the difference in creole and Cajun? Do certain foods fall in diff categories?
