The right-handed pitcher has been excellent for Bourne this summer in the Cape League. The Bourne president is a friend of mine, and she told me last night he's been great in all ways with them. He was named to the All-Star Game and in 14.2 innings, he has a 1.23 ERA with 21 strikeouts and four walks. Opponents are hitting .173 off him with a 0.89 WHIP. Reminder: it's a wood bat league. But, still, the command numbers are really good, and he's an interesting option for Joel Mangrum for next season. He had a ton of strikeouts last season but also allowed a ton of hits. It was a weird overall stat profile.
Someone has to emerge or really improve for them to take a step toward the postseason. It may or may not be McCausland, but he's showing some good signs this summer. He struck out eight and didn't allow a run in 3.2 innings last night.
