Lane Kiffin confirmed what we'd all been seeing, when he answered Neal's question about Perkins adjusting back to a role similar to last season after LSU had him playing a more traditional position to start the year.

"I don't know if they've talked about it, but it looks like they tried to use him as a normal backer in Week 1. Looks like they scratched that after the Florida State game and went back to last year's plan. Just put him out there, make a few calls with him and let him play. I wish they'd put him back in there."

Perkins's FSU grades per PFF College are by far his worst of the season. In the loss to the Seminoles, Perkins graded 39.4 for the game, 39.5 in run defense and 45 in coverage. He had a good pass rush score of 73, but because he was playing linebacker in a more normal sense, FSU could dictate him and put him in positions outside of what he does best. Against FSU, Perkins lined up in the box 40 times and on the defensive line only 14 times. He played a hybrid rush end/linebacker spot in the slot four times.

Perkins only rushed the passer seven times against FSU and then 10 times against Grambling and 17 versus MSU. It's been a bit stubborn and gradual, but now he seems to be fully in last year's role.

This past week against Arkansas, 48 of his 72 snaps were either from that rush slot or on the defensive line. He only got caught in pass coverage with a targeted receiver once compared to 10 times in the previous three games. The 72 snaps are the most in his career. He had four pressures, three hurries and his first sac of the season against Arkansas.

Last year against Ole Miss, he had six quarterback pressures in 37 snaps, only 15 pass rush snaps. Obviously, the Rebels have to do a better job for the offense to move the ball.

He has 16 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, on the season.
