Are you more concerned with your own personal agenda or what's best for our university in the long run?

Any facts or proof to back up your claims about the "liberals" are you just throwing out there hoping it sticks like your idol, Olbermann does. For someone that "loves" Ole Miss, you sure are on a mission to change everything about the school and the fanbase. I'm glad that most Ole Miss don't share your pompous yet pathetic attitude.Originally posted by grovedreamin:

One of pig prathers friends posted on this very board a few weeks ago he didn't consider us for these very issues...keep your head in the sand and keep thinking it doesn't hurt us...I'll beore specific in my question since someone thinks it's a baited one: do you believe having the colonel is beneficial to the university in the long run? As simple a question as it gets...if you answer yes then you need your head examined...if you answer no then clearly it's a personal agenda and your concern isn't with the betterment of our university...

It is an issue with the football program because opposing coaches use it as a negitive. Factually, Colonel Reb represents very little that is Ole Miss today. Ole Miss recently produced its 25th Rhodes Scholar. The Atlantic Monthly Magizine named the Ole Miss creative writing program in the top five in the nation. A Memphis family gave $500,000.00 to the rising Ole Miss Classics program. The list goes on. These are some of the things great Universities attempt to do. Having some poor soul dressed in a confederate army uniform running around saying "this is who we are" does not, in my opinion represent who we are today. It just doesn't. Unfortunely, symbols are important. Like it or not a confederate Colonel, does represent the values of the civil war some 230 years ago. Ole Miss today does not represent those values and most any student, alumni, adminsrator, and the state legislature will tell anyone who will listen that they do not. Thus, clinging to the symbol that does represent those values is more than just unproductive. Another thing I don't understand is why individuals be they alumni, donors, students think they have the right to tell the university not to change its mascot, landscaping, roof tile, ect. Those are policy matters that are solely the responsibility of the adminstration and legislature. There is nothing that requires the adminstration or the legislature to yield to any special interest group. I think the matter is closed and the decision made. If some group or person thinks otherwise I guess they could file a lawsuit. Whats done is done.
