See you in January sometime

Signing Off for 30 Days (Maybe More)

I enjoy reading the board each day and enjoy the daily podcasts, but after 1,260 days (the length of time NIL has been around, according to Google) of being told I’m stupid for still liking college football, I kept coming back for more.

I’ve been an annual subscriber to this site ($106.95 auto-drafted on December 5th, after tax), a daily listener to most MPW podcasts, and even got my wife to start listening. Multi-year member - my profile says I joined Jan 2006.

I understand on one cares – I’m posting this so I can get something out of the $106.95 renewal, and my own peace of mind. I’m taking a break. Here are the reasons why:

  1. Let AJ Talk More on MacMondays
Neal and especially Tyler, y’all dominate the conversation too much on MacMondays. AJ brings smart, honest, and insightful takes, and he doesn’t let fandom bias cloud his opinion—qualities I really value. Yet he’s constantly overshadowed.
This week, I quit listening at the 40-minute mark because it was just Tyler talking. I’ve already asked about this twice on the message board, but since it seems AJ is going to remain muzzled, I’m stepping away.

  1. The Red-and-Blue-Glasses Comment (this was the kicker)
At the 40:44 mark of today’s podcast, there was a comment about how “they want you to tell them how Deshawn Womack, even though he didn’t really contribute at LSU, is going to be an elite player at Ole Miss.”
To me, this stereotype describes a Spirit subscriber. I moved to this site because I wanted honest news, whether good or bad—not sugarcoated fandom. I was ready to hear why Womack didn’t contribute much at LSU. Instead, I felt dismissed as if I were a rose-colored-glasses-wearing simpleton.

  1. Write the Stories
Today’s podcast Neal was mad - holding back from reporting the numbers, multi-year agreements, opts outs and writing “financial terms are not disclosed”. Well, Neal, you’re the publisher. If that’s a topic worth writing, write it. If you’re not going to do that, and if you won’t give honest analysis about portal players, why not just merge with the Spirit?
  2. Constant NIL and college football Negativity
Every day, especially since the end of football season, I’ve heard the same thing: College sports aren’t pro sports, NIL is dumb, etc. I get it. You think NIL is ruining college sports. I get it!!! But could we have a day or two without rehashing the same complaints – how about once a week instead of five times a week? Since that doesn’t seem likely, I’ll take the break instead.
Life is too short to yell at my phone in frustration. So, with all sincerity, thank you to Neal, Chase, Jeffrey, Tyler, and my two new favorite MPW voices, AJ and Josh. I hope y’all have a Merry Christmas and a wonderful time with your families.

We are all blessed in very special ways. May we have the eyes and hearts to appreciate those blessings even more this Christmas.

And thank you to Jeffrey Wright for defending the silent majority at the 41:05 mark of today’s podcast—I appreciate that!

Life is also too short to miss out on a good thing - you’re still the prettiest girl at the dance - See y’all sometime in January!

Memphis basketball tickets

Last big OOC test for the Rebs, a few days before NYE, before the Gator Bowl trip etc. Lower bowl tickets are only $77 through Memphis..$150+ on resale pages.

Hope we have a huge OM crowd there, a win at Memphis and this team is headed to a top 6 seed in March.

In case you want to pinpoint where your seats would be:

Do college teams need to rethink the OL position?

This past week there have been so many games where the OL of even good teams are being abused by athletic defenders, O linemen seem too big, too slow and so un athletic , is it time to change to agile but strong 260-270 pound guys that can run (those all tend to migrate to the dL side now), watch a game from the 70s or 80s and o linemen were much better in blocking downfield, pulling and being quick enough to step outside and make a block on the very good defensive ends,, it seems coaches are convinced you have to be about 350 to play tackle,, not sure that is the case,, the d linemen are so much better they may need to rethink this.

Church Christmas Programs

Just curious if your church had a Christmas program this morning? What was it called?

We had one this morning titled “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.” Main character was a mouse shocked to find out Jesus was born on the first Christmas.

Now that I have a 1 year old (as of yesterday) , these programs/plays have become more dear to my heart.
