Is a pretty shitty excuse. Even if that is the case, I remember being told the opposite many times over this tenure, that still doesn’t really excuse the fact at that point we’re paying three guys millions of dollars, who are at best a neutral effect on the team. I’m not exactly sure why wanting an offensive staff who actually contributes positively to the offense is controversial. It doesn’t detract from the blame Lane has for hiring them in the first place, but it sure as shit is a way he can improve it.
