The link below is a nice short conversation with former MLB player Mike Sweeney. His son was a 2023 high school recruit that committed and signed with Texas Longhorns. He was a top 500 ranked player out of high school and was cut from the Longhorns after the fall semester of his freshman year. I know that there are a lot of baseball fans on this board that love college baseball, but this story is the part of college baseball that people seldom hear about. Players that have played ball their whole life, they sign with their dream school, and then get cut after just four months and told to put their name in the transfer portal because they need roster space. Here is how MJ Sweeney's dad handled the situation. It's a reminder to us all that there are times when we as Dads need to put on our baseball coaching hat, and then there are times when we just have to be dad and show how much we love them.
