Story goes, the Yankees were doing a spring training trip through the south. My Grandfather was a kid and had a ball signed by Babe Ruth. It is beat to hell as my dad and uncle played with it while he was on a navy boat (sandlot movie plot, I know).
1. It is in rough shape, really hard to make out any letters but can kind of see it.
2. My grandfather was a prankster, could have signed it himself.
Should i have it authenticated? It's kind of expensive (400-500 dollars). Also if it's not real kind of kills the mystique, I wouldn't tell my dad if it isn't real.
Does anyone have experience with any of these services. Seems like Beckett and PSA are the two big ones.
Essentially you FedEx it to them, they inspect it and send it back. This will take a real inspection and my fear is it will be inconclusive and I'm out 500 dollars.
