I am glad this is being discussed. However, can someone explain to me why anyone other than the SEC, Big 10, and Notre Dame would agree to this?

The SEC and Big 10 would have a better chance at getting multiple byes. Notre Dame would now gain potential access to byes, which they don’t have today.

That’s only 3 of 11 votes required though. Why would any of the other conference commissioners come to an agreement to change the format to where they are less likely to get a bye, even if it’s for one year?

The only thing I can think is that maybe the Big 10 and SEC are making verbal promises about the 2026 format.
