This may run a little long but I thought I’d share a personal story. Roughly 2 years ago, I was diagnosed with AML, and at the time, things didn’t look very promising. I won’t go into all of it, just to say, that I had to have a bone marrow transplant. At the time, the only donor they could match was my brother and I had a reaction to his blood due to an antigen that developed during the initial treatments from the numerous transfusions I had to have.
Thanks to the doctors at UMMC, and advancements in medicine, I was able to receive a half match transplant successfully. My dad, at 70, stepped up and on December 27, 2023, he saved my life. Our affection for Ole Miss sports is something, he, myself and my brothers have always shared. Over the last few years I’ve missed most of all the sports, sans a few football games this fall. Yesterday, he and I attended the game together thanks to a member of this board lending his tickets. It was my first baseball game in almost two years, and my dad’s first since sitting on the hill watching Ole Miss and Oklahoma in a regional years ago. More importantly, it was a chance to spend a few hours, just the two of us, doing something we love. It’s also something that a few years ago, we might have skipped out on. I’m glad we didn’t, as I will never forget it. So, although I don’t want to name him personally, I just wanted to say thank you to that member of this board, because for me and my dad, the game was more important than the score.
