ESPN having to use Wright Thompson as on air talent..

I thought the report/recorded segment he did on the Heat dynasty was very good..but even that piece had to have Jeremy Schaap narrate it. So why did ESPN think it was a good idea to then put him on air to repeat what Schaap just said for him? Times are noticeably tough for ESPN on air talent..
