I will freely admit to being a long time (Looooong time. Late 60's) True Blue Cowboy fan. Obviously, I'm a Rebel through and through as well.
I have no problem with this signing on either side. Dallas gets a potentially dominant pass rusher, but one with a contract that is almost 100% performance based, as well as (And here's the real key) one they can get out of at a moments notice at any time during the year with virtually no cap hit. So if Greg plays great and keeps his head down and shows up when he's supposed to, he makes a lot of money. (13 Million plus, potentially)
OTOH, if he doesn't perform, he makes a pittance (For an NFL player. Still monster money for most of us non-millionaires). If he acts a fool, the Cowboys can cut him in a NY second. Win- win for the Cowboys and a real chance for Hardy to get his act together.
The thing that really ticks me off are all the people claiming Greg is a complete scumbag who doesn't deserve a chance to make a living at his chosen profession. Domestic violence is certainly a very bad thing, but the facts in Hardy's case leave much in doubt. Sounds like he did indeed strike her at some point, but it also sounds like she hit first and instigated things. Even if he struck her for no reason, it was (As far as we know) a one time thing. Does that deserve a "barred from the NFL" punishment?
The other is Jason Garrett, who has constantly talked about bringing in "the right kind of guys". He's certainly done that, but at no point did I ever hear him say "We won't bring in anyone who doesn't meet my standard". So, he is not a hypocrite for signing Greg Hardy.
Sure, ideally he would love to have 53 Jason Witten types. Who wouldn't? But that's never going to happen. What you can't have is a locker room full of Greg Hardy's. A few, very talented, ones though? They can be controlled enough to not poison the team.
