The Rebs are ranked at #57 in the Net after the win at A&M. However, the Rebs are ranked #14 in the country using the RPI.
Neal told us that if the Net had been used instead of the RPI, the Rebs would have made the tourney more times than we got there with Andy at the helm. Now, instead of being considered for a 4 or 5 seed at this point, we hope to be one of the last teams in and play one of the play-in games.
It seems like there are problems with both computer-driven rankings. I believe the Rebel basketball team is not the 14th-best team in the country right now, but the team is significantly better than being ranked at #57. Taking an average would put the Rebs at 35.5, which translates to a 9 seed somewhere.
I wonder if the committee takes the RPI into consideration when looking at who's in and who's out for those teams on the bubble. For those of you who follow basketball more than me, what other factors does the NCAA have other than the Net Ranking?
