In our first 6 SEC games we’ve seen 5 lefty starters. This weekend we will very likely see 3 right handers start. I think you’ll get something like this for a lineup.
Sanford DH
Hill 3B
Moreman LF
Humphreys CF
Furniss 1B
Fawley C
Smithwick RF
Randle 2B
Cheng SS
I think they were hoping to see Campbell look really good behind the plate last night so Judd could DH and smithwick could catch but it didn’t happen. He doesn’t handle velocity well enough behind the plate. He let 3 balls go to the backstop once Dennis was out of the game. 1 was a wild pitch but the other 2 were fastballs. Can’t let fastballs go by ever.
I don’t think you’ll see this lineup all 3 days because they won’t sit Judd for 3 games although they absolutely should against righties. He’s awful against righties. Having Judd and Rueter as pinch hit options for lefty relievers could be huge.
We’re playing well at the right time. No errors the last 3 games and everybody seems to be seeing pretty well at the plate. We had 11 Ks and 0 BBs on the mound last night. We hit it well enough that if we don’t give up free bases with walks and errors we’re gonna win a lot of games.
Calhoun looked really good last night and one of the Memphis players I used to coach told me that both Rabe and Waters had a ton of ride on their fastballs and gave them fits.
If we can get 2 this weekend we’ll be in great shape. Have to capitalize on the sweep last weekend.
