Awesome to keep egg in Oxford. Happy for the seniors, especially the ones that have been here a long time. Went 4-1 in Egg Bowl and changed the program. Really exciting. It’s hit Kiffin since that there’s so much he wishes he could change, but to be 9-3 and have 20 wins in last two years is really good anywhere, especially here. Lots of home wins and since Covid, Ole Miss has been 25-3 at home, so “that’s pretty cool.”
On pitch to committee:
Watching other things and there are no perfect teams out there. Football is a very hard sport and things go weird at end of games. That doesn’t necessarily mean a team is better than another team. Ole Miss was 4-0 in one-score games last season and even though Ole Miss is better this year than last year, this team has lost three one-score games. In other nine games, every game was a double-digit win, not even close at the end. That describes a really good team. Ole Miss is only team in the SEC to not lose by more than one score. That includes Texas. It’s a very good league. Ole Miss is in top-6 in SP+, along with Alabama, Penn State, Notre Dame, Oregon and Tennessee. Ole Miss “screwed some super close games up,” but is “a really good team.” Florida is playing great right now. Had Lagway not gotten hurt, might have beaten Georgia. “We played really well but we didn’t finish off that game. Once Tre (Harris) got hurt, we struggled on offense.”
On South Carolina possibly jumping Ole Miss:
Great respect for Carolina. Really good team, well-coached, really good players, but South Carolina jumping Ole Miss would beg question, “Why even play games?” Ole Miss went to their place “and ran them out of their place. …If the committee’s even thinking about that, then what are you even playing games for? …We could still be playing the game and they still might not score a touchdown.”
On recruiting:
Had great responses from visitors. Since Covid, Ole Miss has been a “cool place to play.” Only Georgia and Alabama have better regular-season records dating back to 2021. Lots to sell to recruits.
Said he didn’t know if there would be surprises on Wednesday. Lots of momentum in recruiting. It’s really exciting.
On player personnel:
