in recruiting.

Taking a look at the 24/7 composite rankings (which includes both high school and the portal) the old SEC order seems to be re-asserting itself. The traditional “Big 6” all are ranked in the Top 13 (Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Florida, and Tennessee) as are Texas and Oklahoma….which would constitute a new Big 8.

Ole Miss is down there with Missouri and South Carolina and a bit ahead of Kentucky and Arkansas, with MSU and Vanderbilt lagging behind. The second tier.

The sparkling returns we saw from the portal last year don’t seem to be happening this year. No Nolens on the list. Early excitement that we might be taking Mbakwe and Haynes from Bama as well as the top-ranked receiver prospect in Singleton seems to have faded.

We have committed several offensive linemen, the greatest position of need, but none of them seem to be game-changers

There is still some time, but one wonders if the program has gone as far as it ever is going to, talent-wise and otherwise under Kiffin.
