We’re excited to be here and this huge matchup. To be able to play Penn State and coach Franklin who have done a great job for a number of years. It’s a big challenge for us. Excited to be in Atlanta with events and a lot of work to do. We have practice in the stadium today. A lot of work to be done.

Tremendous amount of great players in Georgia and around Atlanta and this is a really cool stadium for football. I’ve been in this game before and it’s a neat game to be a part of and in this market.

I’m very grateful to be hired here four seasons ago and to get an extension which didn’t change any financials, only length and commitment and I’m pleased to be a part of that and I’m grateful. We’ve won 10 games twice and when you think of where it was when we got here. With recruiting, and going into next year, it’s amazing. Credit to staff and players. Excited for another game.

The Penn State QB is hard to beat, takes care of the ball and he has a good mixture of getting out of trouble and really protects it. He’s a student of the game and doesn’t make many mistakes. Couple that with the best defense in the country and it’s a good combination. It’s why these guys have won so many games.

Having interim coordinators for Penn State is a challenge. We don’t know what they are going to do. It’s like first game of the season with no tape. We have to play sound football.

The SEC is so balanced with elite talent. It’s not disrespecting other conferences. The Draft shows that. The environments are hard and difficult and the coaches and coordinators are great. I don’t think any other conference has that from top to bottom.

With the timeframe with the portal, a lot of times it won’t be as enjoyable as watching kids develop and then succeed. That doesn’t always work. Look at the NBA where dream teams don’t always have good seasons. Just like signing five stars doesn’t always work. I enjoy how these guys have come together from all over the country and put aside egos and it says a lot about them. That’s not the common theme today with this generation and with this system as it’s set up. Chasing money. That doesn’t equal chemistry usually.

I probably jinxed myself. A surprise that Cedric Johnson won’t play. We’ll miss him and we wish him the best of luck. Everyone has to make their own decisions and kids think about things differently. Penn State has a lot of good players and with their development and without using the portal as much, they can sustain opt outs.

We had a couple early enrollees come to practice at home but not traveling with us. I wish they were.

Penn State plays hard on defense with great talent and coaching. They are physical at home and on the road. Sometimes you see teams not play as hard away from home. These guys aren’t like that. It’s elite talent and old-school mentality.

We’re finally to a normal schedule now. It’s a normal week for us other than the long hotel stay. Before now it was all recruiting and the portal and going to other universities to see kids and dealing with our own kids. It’s a terrible system and no other sport would ever set up a system with free agency while the season is going. It makes no sense. You can leave, stay, coaches can call you and we’re still playing. It would be like playing the AFC title game but recruiting players the week of the game.
