Needs some advice from you legal eagles. My mother in law rented her recently deceased father’s house to a man and now a bunch of stuff is missing.
The man who rented the house works with my mother in law. His house burned down before Thanksgiving and he and his family needed a place to live immediately. My mother in law’s father had recently died and his old house was unoccupied. BUT there was still a ton of his stuff in the house. We advised her not to do it but out of the goodness of her heart, she did anyway.
Now they have moved out of the house and apparently a bunch of items are missing including lots of tools, small appliances and even his old 4 wheeler. I’m sure there’s a bunch of other stuff but that’s what she knows of for now.
The former tenant is playing dumb about the items missing. He says he has the 4 wheeler in the shop getting it fixed but I have my doubts.
We told her to video and take pics before they moved in but she trusted him and so here we are.
Are we SOL or is there something we can do to get this resolved? Many thanks!
