I think a lot of folks here expect us to reload in a similar manner to last year but I’m not sure it will work like that.
Last year we had experienced, one year rental guys, like Nolan, Princely and some of the OL guys (who didn’t pan out) interested because of pay, but also we were selling a preseason top 5 team.
We don’t have the projected favorites tag anymore. Assuming other schools can offer similar money, it might be tougher to land the guys like Nolan looking to play for an immediate favorite.
Instead of going after one year rentals this offseason, should we instead go after some younger guys showing out that might be here two years and build towards 2026 being our big year?
Look, I’m not saying we don’t try and be competitive next year, just saying we don’t make 2025 make or break. Seems like 2026, with presumably Simmons being in his second year as a starter, would be the season we build towards. Would also allow us to go with Simmons and not feel pressure to throw the house at another QB in the offseason.
