I never hear this mentioned in these discussions, but the mascot has to make common sense. It just doesn’t work if it requires some long, made up backstory.
That’s why the bear didn’t work.
A lab won’t work. It will work for now but the moment Lane leaves, it turns into another situation that requires explanation.
The Landshark would have worked because the “Landshark Defense” and “throwing find up” have gained recognition over the years. That ship has sailed.
There are two options:
1. Reinvent Col. Reb into a PC appropriate, 2024 character.
2. Go with a bear or dog that will never make sense and just accept that mascot branding will always be an indentity crisis for OM.
