The special election to replace Alan Nunnelee is next Tuesday, May 12.
One of the front runners is Mike Tagert. I would caution any Ole Miss fan to think long and hard about someone else.
1) Tagert lives in Starkville - outside of MS01. This is allowed by law, but just doesn't feel right
2) Tagert is heavily involved in Bully Bloc - MSU's political action committee designed to get MSU alumni in places of power to help MSU. We all know that helping MSU in many cases means hurting Ole Miss
3) Tagert is Transportation Commissioner. Take a look at Highway 7 and some other roads leading to Oxford, then check out Highway 25 and 45 leading to Starkville and go back and read #2. The fact that Highway 7 hasn't been widened should be reason alone for most to not vote for Tagert.
There are some guys with Ole Miss ties in the race:
Trent Kelly - My problem with Kelly is that he ran as a D a few years ago and that disqualifies him for me. Regardless of where you land, I don't like people that will switch sides as it benefits them
Quentin Whitwell - Ole Miss guy, but again, he moved to Jackson to get on the city council and back to Oxford once Nunnelee got in poor health. Moving around for political gain just doesn't feel right to me.
The only two with Ole Miss ties that I like are Chip Mills and Daniel Sparks. Chip Mills is my pick. He's a good dude and walked on to one of Cutcliffe's teams.
Regardless - get out and vote.
