COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) -- Two people attempting to join ISIS were detained by federal authorities at the Golden Triangle Regional Airport over the weekend.

During a court hearing Monday in Oxford, authorities identify the two as Jaelyn Delshaun Young of Vicksburg and Muhammed Oda Dakhlalla of Starkville.

The two apparently had been planning for nearly a year to leave the U. S. for the Middle East.

The two planned to travel to Turkey, get married and then cross into Syria.

Young attended Mississippi State and wanted to become a doctor.

During the hearing, authorities say she apparently offered to serve ISIS as a medic.

The hearing is expected to continue Tuesday morning at 9 a.m.

GTR Airport Executive Director Mike Hainsey confirms the incident took place around 6:30 Saturday morning.

He says it is the first time in his career at the airport someone was detained by the FBI.

WTVA News has a crew in Oxford and will have more details as they become available.
