My dad is 78 years old and a lifelong Tulane fan. It’s a tough life, but my childhood was filled with trips to New Orleans to watch the Wave play. Lots of bad over the years, but I vividly remember his excitement during the 1979 season and 79-82 when they beat LSU 3 of those 4 years. I’ll never forget the treatment from LSU fans after the game in Tiger Stadium in ‘82. In his mind, LSU is still a hated rival. In ‘79 he and I drove from our home in Houston to a motel room in Lake Charles just so he could watch the 1979 Ole Miss/TU game on tv. The days before streaming!
Well, I came to Ole Miss and he became a big OM fan as well, but TU remained his number one. He and I will be attending the game tonight, just like those days many years ago. It’s rare we go together to games now and I wonder if we’ll get to do it ever again. Who knows, but tonight we will enjoy, regardless the outcome. He’ll be with me in section P wearing his TU gear.
